So, They’re Rebooting “Buffy”

May 27, 2009

I know, I know: This happened yesterday.  Since I was suffering from what was apparently a more benign strain of pneumonic plague, however, I was unable to respond to the news with anything more than a premature death rattle and some mild foaming about the mouth.  Incidentally, I discovered that the cure for pneumonic plague is Mexican food followed by a brief period of unconsciousness. But I digress.  The word, for those who haven’t heard, is that Vertigo Entertainment are commissioning Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband Kaz Kazui, who own the intellectual property rights, to produce a reboot of the 1992 “Buffy” movie.  It’s being reported, however, that the flick may not exist in the same universe as Joss Whedon’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and &#…

Jim Carrey As A Hippie? It Happened, At The 1999 MTV Movie Awards

May 27, 2009

FROM MTV.COM: Jim Carrey does not often go unnoticed. But when the actor showed up at the 1999 MTV Movie Awards, almost no one knew who he was. And the explanation for this odd turn of events constitutes one of the best and funniest moments in MTV Movie Awards history. Carrey had been nominated for Best Male Performance for his turn in “The Truman Show” and decided to show up at the June ‘99 ceremony dressed as a straggly haired, chain-smoking hippie. From roles in “The Mask” to “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” Carrey is no stranger to disguises — only this time, he didn’t tell anyone about his plan. Movie Trailers – Movies Blog Continue

‘Drag Me To Hell’ And Other Horror Flicks You Can Share With Your Family

May 27, 2009

Let’s first clear up what a “family-friendly” horror movie is. Clearly, you’re not going to want to show this stuff to squeamish little siblings if it’s just going to scar them. Unless it’s part of your plan of course, but that’s your own business. Sam Raimi’s “Drag Me To Hell,” out this week, has been designated by the MPAA as kosher for all human Americans aged 13 and older. From what I hear, it’s also a hella scary ride. Director Sam Raimi is very good at capturing disturbing imagery on film. Stuff that just doesn’t quite look right. There’s his “Evil Dead” series of course. And…

Jonah Hill Describes ‘21 Jump Street’ Remake As ‘R-Rated’ And ‘Insane’

May 27, 2009

Jonah Hill has ascended the mountain of would-be Hollywood comedians to join the elite ranks of Judd Apatow -approved players, but the “Funny People” actor isn’t looking strictly towards comedy as his career continues its path — he’s adding a little bit of action into the mix as well. As previously reported , the “Superbad” star is writing and producing a remake of “21 Jump Street,” , the ’80s-era television cop show that Johnny Depp would probably like expunged from his IMDB record. Hill previously spoke with MTV News about the film , describing it as a straight-up comedy akin to the upcoming “Land of the Lost” remake. But for “Jump Street” stalwarts who can’t handle the film taking a comedic tone, …

Will Ferrell Meeting With ‘Anchorman’ Creators About Possible Sequel

May 27, 2009

“Anchorman 2″ just inched one meeting closer to becoming a reality. Somewhere in the mix of appearing on the 2009 MTV Movie Awards , promoting next week’s summer comedy “Land of the Lost” on “Behind the Screen” , and getting ready for the release of his next film, “The Goods,” Ferrell managed to wedge in a meeting with the creative minds behind 2004’s “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.” Re-assembling the film’s all-star news team, which included Ferrell, Steve Carell , Paul Rudd , and Christina Applegate , probably won’t be easy, but the gears sound like they are finally in motion. Ferrell told an Australian radio DJs Jono & Dano that he’ll be meeting with “all the guys” from the first “Anchorman” next week to “figure out when and how” to map out the sequel…

Lin describes the project as a “character-oriented… more realistic” origin story for the popular treasure seeker. He clarifies shortly after that, comparing …

Kevin Smith Advises Host Andy Samberg Before The MTV Movie Awards: Flash A Nipple! Marry Justin Timberlake!

May 27, 2009

When Kevin Smith stopped by the MTV News offices recently and we asked if he had any advice for upcoming Movie Awards host Andy Samberg , I was thinking Smith would say something along the lines of, “Dude, remember to brush your teeth!” See, back in 1999 Smith and buddy Ben Affleck took to the Movie Awards stage to present the Golden Popcorn statue for Best New Filmmaker to “Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels” director Guy Ritchie. And, well, one thing led to another, and suddenly Smith and Affleck were making out on stage until Affleck broke the embrace and announced that Smith needed to work on his oral hygiene. A decade later, Kevin has…

According to Blabbermouth.net , his newest role may have him exploring real life horror as Norwegian death metal singer Varg Vikernes in “Lords of Chaos.” Vikernes, a.k.a. Count Grishnackh, was a prominent member of the Norwegian death metal scene of the 1990s. He was the head of the one man musical project Burzum, until he was arrested and convicted for the murder of Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth, guitarist and co-founder of the band Mayhem, for reasons that remain unclear. ‘Land Of The Lost’ Director Brad Silbering Hints At A Return To The World Of Lemony Snicket

May 26, 2009

Are you still patiently waiting for more Count Olaf? It’s been five years since the adaptation of “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” hit theaters, a reasonable enough amount of time to assume that a sequel probably isn’t going to happen. Of course, that doesn’t stop author Daniel Handler (aka “Lemony Snicket”) and adaptation director Brad Silberling from occasionally giving hope to fans. Silberling, whose new film “Land of the Lost” opens next week, recently had the following to say to CineFOOLS on the subject: “I actually think it’s going to see the light of day. [Handler and I] stay in constant touch about it, because I would love nothing more than to do that and we’ve been hoping to, so I think there will be a chance it may take a wildly different form, but I think it will probably happen.” Even “wildly different …
